This is the first recording of the little-known opera by Rossini - libretto by Cesare della Valle,  duke of Ventignano. It was first performed at the Teatro San Carlo on December 3, 1820, with a slightly revised verfsion opening in 1823 in Venice. It is a masterwork of orchestration and is described in the liner notes as Rossini's most ambitious opera.   Well worth hearing!
