La Cenerentola was first presented in Rome on 25 January 1817, with the composer at the harpsichord. It is described in the socre as a 'Melodramma Giocoso' . The libretto is by Jacopo Ferretti.
Oddly, the opera contains two arias and a chorus not composed by Rossini, but which he 'imported' into the score.  Over time the performances strayed from the score more and more until Ricordi published a correct, authentic edition which this recording follows.  It was made during the Edinburgh Festival of 1971.
