This is the first recording of the opera, made in Rome at the 1983 Rossini Opera Festival. Based on the Walter Scott novel as adapted in the ibretto by Andrea Leone Tottola, and one of Rossini's best serious operas.  Discarding poor alterations made at various times,   this is a definitive version,  prepared by H. Colin Slim.
