AMAZON REVIEW: 'Admeto' is one of the five operas which Handel composed for his rival prima donnas Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni. It is arguably the best of them on both a musical and dramatic level but, like it's predecesor 'Alessandro' seems to have been oddly ignored in the Handel revival. Thank goodness that Alan Curtis recorded it in the 70s... Something of a trailblazer at the time (one of the first historically correct Handel recordings) it can sound a little dated now but it is still very acceptable and a fine chance to hear some excellent music.

Admeto was first produced at the King's Theatre, London, on 31 January 1727. It was an immediate success and thought of as one of Handel's finest dramatic works, though not as widely performed today as it deserves.
